The following are common questions and answers regarding the Can Pure™ WPS (Water Purification System). Should you have further questions, please contact us and we would be pleased to help.
Does the Can Pure™ WPS hold any certifications or approvals?
YES, while the Can Pure™ WPS does not hold any certifications or approvals as a system overall, it does contain 3 very important certifications:
- The Can Pure™ WPS uses 1 micron absolute filter cartridges which meets or exceeds the three-log (99.9%) removal requirements described in NSF/ANSI Standard 53 for cyst sized particles. Independent lab validated tests performed by the filter manufacturer using live organisms resulted in the removal of 99.99 percent of Giardia lamblia cysts and 99.98% of Cryptosporidium parvum oocysts.
- The Can Pure™ WPS uses advanced ultraviolet disinfection which is certified to NSF/ANSI 55 Class A and UL Listed in Canada and the US
- If using the optional, residual chlorination treatment, the Can Pure™ WPS uses AQUATABS® which are certified to NSF/ANSI Standard 60 and its active ingredient, NaDCC (ACL 60), has been approved for drinking water treatment by the U.S EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and the WHO (World Health Organization). A detailed Conformance Report is available upon request.
Will the Can Pure™ WPS remove cysts such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium?
YES, the Can Pure™ WPS uses a multi-barrier approach to remove/inactivate cysts such as Giardia and Cryptosporidium. The Model #5 contains a microfiltration system specifically designed to physically remove cysts from the water stream using 1 micron absolute filtration technology that meets or exceeds the three-log (99.9%) removal requirements described in NSF/ANSI Standard 53 for cyst sized particles. Post filtration, the water stream is further subjected to disinfection by ultraviolet light using a system certified to NSF/ANSI 55, Class A, a certification which includes the inactivation of Giardia and Cryptosporidium.
When using the Can Pure™ WPS, how “dirty” can the raw water source be?
While the Can Pure™ WPS has been specifically built for challenging environments, it does have limitations. Raw water sources with extreme levels of turbidity and organics may overwhelm the filtration system of the Can Pure™ WPS and create a need for additional pre-treatment or a site specific combination of standard and/or optional, specialty filters. No other product on the market today within the weight and dimensional limits of the Can Pure™ WPS contains as many stages of filtration or as many choices of filter cartridges and media.
Could the Can Pure™ WPS be used to remove contaminants such as heavy metals, diesel fuel, pesticides, etc?
YES and NO. The standard filter configuration of the Can Pure™ WPS is only designed to remove bacteriological contaminants such as bacteria, viruses and cysts. It will NOT remove or inactivate contaminants such as heavy metals, pesticides, herbicides, PCB’s, gasoline, diesel fuel, oil, uranium, radiation, etc. It is strongly recommended that each raw water source be tested and that additional precautions be taken if required. Please refer to the filter configuration for Extreme conditions which does include a proprietary blend of speciality resins and absorbents to remove heavy metals, chlorine, taste and odour (please note reduction in output to a recommended 0.5 gpm). There are optional filters and products which can assist with the removal of further non-bacteriological contaminants such as hydrocarbons, Iron, etc. – please contact your distributor for more information.
Could the Can Pure™ WPS be used to treat salt water?
NO, the Can Pure™ WPS is designed to treat fresh water only. All salt-water sources must be desalinated before being used. Please contact your distributor for more information about Global Hydration products which can be used to desalinate brackish or salt water sources.
Could the Can Pure™ WPS be used to treat fresh water sourced from drilled or shallow wells?
YES and NO, while the Can Pure™ WPS is designed to treat fresh water, it is not designed to treat fresh water with high levels of dissolved minerals such as Calcium, Iron and Manganese which can occur in well water. These contaminants will interfere with the UV disinfection portion of the Can Pure™ WPS and cause it to fault. Please ask your distributor for more information regarding products and filters designed to assist with these types of contaminants.
Is electricity or gravity required to operate the Can Pure™ WPS?
YES and NO, while the Can Pure™ WPS does not require gravity, it does require electricity at the following parameters: 120V AC, 1.2 amps and 130 watts. Please note that the optional diesel powered centrifugal supply pump includes an integral generator sufficient to meet these needs (when combined with an inverter). Please contact your distributor for more information. The Can Pure™ WPS does include an resettable, integral, Ground Fault Interruption (GFI) system.
Will the Can Pure™ WPS draw water from a source without assistance?
NO, the Can Pure™ WPS does not have the capacity to draw water from a source such as a lake or river. The Can Pure™ WPS must be supplied with raw water at the rate of 15 - 19 LPM and 30 - 40 PSI for optimal performance. A wide selection of optional diesel, gas or electric supply pumps are available upon request. Please ask your distributor for more information. Alternately, sufficient flow and pressure may be available from a municipal fire hydrant system. Please ask your distributor for more information on required adapters if needed.
Are any extra tools or components required that are not included with the Can Pure™ WPS?
NO, the Can Pure™ WPS includes all tools required to operate it.
Is the water produced by the Can Pure™ WPS safe for use in kitchen or shower facilities where the treated water may be heated?
YES, all water treated by the Can Pure™ WPS is completely safe to heat and/or use in kitchen or shower facilities.
How much water will the Can Pure™ WPS produce in a 24 hour period?
Please refer to the product specification sheet included with this manual. NOTE: Output may decrease with improper UV light maintenance, filter maintenance, filter change outs, the use of some optional filters, cold weather, long hose runs, pump maintenance and/or a reduction in the volume/PSI of feed water.
Will the Can Pure™ WPS remove dissolved minerals and/or colouring that may be present in some water sources?
YES and NO, while the Can Pure™ WPS will remove naturally occurring organics such as tannins that may be present and responsible for some discolouration of the raw water, it will not remove colour resulting from ultra fine turbidity or dissolved minerals such Iron. Optional filters for both ultra fine turbidity and a wide selection of minerals such as Iron are available upon request. Please contact your distributor for more information.
Does the Can Pure™ WPS include an on-site testing program?
YES, a number of optional water quality testing tools and kits are available. These include test strips and meters for parameters such as free chlorine, pH, pesticides, nitrites, lead, etc. and test kits for parameters such as bacteria, TDS, turbidity and more. Ask your distributor for more information.
Is additional testing required on water produced by the Can Pure™ WPS?
YES, as a final precaution, similar to testing done by municipalities and cities, it is recommended that all water produced by the Can Pure™ WPS be tested by a laboratory experienced in drinking water testing and who can also advice on proper sample collection, storage and transportation techniques.
Are there any options to reduce the operating costs of the Can Pure™ WPS for longer term applications?
YES, Global Hydration offers a number of unique products and tips to help reduce the operating costs of the Can Pure™ WPS. For example, raw water sources which contain high levels of organics and colour may benefit from a back flushable module which eliminates the need for certain disposable filters within the Can Pure™ WPS standard filter configuration. This will reduce operating costs but does come with a necessity for an additional module, greater power requirements, etc. Please ask your distributor for more information based on your unique situation and water source.
Is technical support available if required?
YES, all effort is made for our team to be available 24/7 to answer questions and/or for field support inquires. Please call (807) 577-0030 or email email@example.com. An after hours, emergency page can be initiated by selecting option #5 after calling the primary phone number.
Does the water produced by the Can Pure™ WPS require a wait or contact time before it can be distributed or used?
No, water produced by the Can Pure™ WPS is ready for immediate use and does not require any chemical treatment or contact time.
How does transporting or storing the water after it has been produced affect its safety?
It is highly recommended that any water requiring storage and/or transportation before use be treated with the optional chlorination tablets available to prevent recontamination and/or contamination by unclean hose, tanks, bottles, etc. It is also highly recommended that water in storage or transportation (bottles or bladders) be regularly retested every 24 hours to confirm its level of protection. If the level of residual free chlorine falls below 0.2 mg/L (ppm), further AQUATABS® should added to increase the level of residual chlorine back to 0.5 mg/L (ppm) or the water should be discarded. AQUATABS® tablets for doses as small as 1 L are available upon request.
Could the Can Pure™ WPS be operated without first reading the Operations Manual?
NO, while the Can Pure™ WPS is designed to be set up and operated by untrained individuals, it does require strict adherence to the directions contained within the Operations Manual to ensure the safety of those operating the system and the safety of the water being produced.
Could I alter or make modifications to the Can Pure™ WPS and/or substitute consumables used in the system such as water filters or water purification tablets?
NO, the Can Pure™ WPS has been carefully designed to operate under strict parameters necessary for the safety of those operating the system and for the safety of the water being produced by the system. Under no circumstances should the Can Pure™ WPS be altered or modified nor should any substitutions be made to consumables, such as water filters or chlorination tablets without consultation with Global Hydration.
